Find Your Tribe

Heather • July 2, 2026

It’s been said that you become the average of the five people you spend the most time with.

Seth Godin says, “One of the most powerful of our survival mechanisms is to be part of a tribe, to contribute to (and take from) a group of like-minded people. We are drawn to leaders and to their ideas, and we can’t resist the rush of belonging and the thrill of the new.”

The quarantine and closing of our gyms in early 2020 was so tough. Not being able to hang out with friends and family was so lonely.

There’s a difference when you’re there in person. The buzz of energy. The sounds of controlled chaos. Your friends pushing you when you thought you couldn’t run faster or couldn’t do another rep. But then you did.

If you don't go to class, you miss the camaraderie of that tribe of people pulling for you to succeed. Workouts at 5 a.m. don’t seem nearly as early when surrounded by your tribe. All the feels are not the same when you see your people through a computer screen.

There’s something incredibly special about a group of people that suffer and sweat together.

Tribes of all kinds are important because:

-Life will have its difficult times. You will fail. You will make mistakes. You’ll want the support of a tribe.

-There will be things that you don’t want to do (but you need to do). You’re going to need people to believe in you more than you believe in yourself at those moments.

-There are people that care about what you have to say. You need to find them.

We truly believe that at Iron Jungle CrossFit, our members are each other's tribe. If you aren't a member yet, we would love to be yours! Book your free No Sweat Intro to meet with a coach here.

If I asked you if eating healthy foods was important, you would say "absolutely," right? And if I asked whether exercise is key for health and wellness, you would most likely respond with a yes. So if we know that nutrition plus fitness is the magic formula for living a vibrantly healthy life, why don't we do it? Why do we prioritize one over the other? Why do we put one on the back burner and only get serious about it when we’ve been slapped in the face by a wake-up call, such as getting winded by one flight of stairs or a high blood-pressure reading?

Take a few breaths. Notice if you are inhaling through your mouth or your nose. Pay attention to whether you are breathing into your chest or your belly. If you are in a relaxed state, most likely you can inhale through your nose easily and breathe into your belly. If you are a bit more stressed, you may notice your shoulders rising up and be questioning - it’s possible to inhale through your nose??

We had to move all of our classes inside due to the storm today so I wanted to put together a short blog post with some tips for working out inside. Right now, you must wear your mask the entire time you are inside and we have circles set up that are 6+ feet apart.

One of the biggest misconceptions about CrossFit is that you need to be fit before you start. Images of elite athletes lifting heavy weights or performing advanced gymnastics movements can make CrossFit seem intimidating. The truth is, CrossFit is designed to be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, experience, or current fitness level.

When it comes to improving your performance in the gym, most people immediately think about training harder, adding more volume, or chasing the next PR. But here’s the truth: you can’t out-train poor nutrition.

Walk into any CrossFit class and you’ll see it all—heavy barbells, short sprints, long grinders, and everything in between. That’s not by accident. It’s because real fitness isn’t built from just one thing.

Walk into any great CrossFit gym and you’ll see barbells, rowers, chalk buckets, and whiteboards. But that’s not the real magic.

If you’ve done CrossFit for more than a week, you’ve probably heard the phrase “constantly varied.” And if you’re newer, you might think it means something like: random workouts every day. But that’s not what constantly varied actually means. In fact, good CrossFit programming is anything but random. Let’s break it down.
